We've all done it. Some more than others.
Losing your keys (or phone, or wallet) is easy, and incredibly frustrating. Even when you know you've just misplaced it in your house and not properly lost it, it's still frustrating.
We run through the 6 simples steps to follow to find your lost keys quicker:
1. Stay Calm
This is easier said than done. But it is essential for speed and your own sanity.
Take a few minutes to collect yourself, and realise that your search will be over shortly. Remember to stay positive and think logically.
2. Check Where it Should be
If you usually leave your keys on the table next to your door, check there first. If you usually leave them in the lock, check there first.
When you do things such as leaving the same item in the same place repeatedly, you form a habit. A habit is an action which is done automatically without thinking.
So just because you don't consciously remember leaving your keys on the side, doesn't mean you didn't do it.
3. Tidy Up As You Go
Having mess and clutter makes searching for things even trickier. As you look for your keys, make the effort to tidy up, rather than just moving items around. This leaves a clear path where you have and haven't searched already.
It also gives you the feel good factor, which can counter the frustration of losing your keys in the first place!
4. Check the Obvious Places
Think about the logical places you could place your keys if they are not in their usual location. Have you searched you pockets of the clothes you are wearing? How about your coat? Or the previous set of clothes you wore?
Have you looked through your bag? What about checking if they are still in the lock? (checking both sides of the door is helpful here!)
5. Retrace your Steps
Think back to the last place and time you remember seeing your keys. Return to that same place and retrace your steps. Make sure you look in every cupboard/ room/ fridge that you might have been in contact with and search thoroughly.
You may have placed your keys down whilst doing another task and forgotten to re-pick them up
6. Look Where You Found It Last
Remember the last time you lost your keys? Where were they?
Go back and check this place; it is common that people make the same mistakes over and over. Just don't make the same mistake of repeating steps 1-5 before finding them in the same place again.
